Neurosurgery
Neurosurgery in BMHRC in
the year 2005 stands at a threshold. It has become a recognized
National centre of excellence in endoscopic and complex spine surgery.
All subspecialties of neurosurgery are performed here. We treat head
injuries at par with best centers in the World. We have 80% facial
nerve preservation rates in acoustics. Survival of our patients with
malignant gliomas exceeds that in international literature. We
regularly perform vascular surgeries. Our Morbidity and Mortality data
is available for peer review and is comparable to the standards.
Orthopaedic, ENT and neurosurgeons have expresses desire to work as
observer here. We aim at increasing our operative load from 400
cases/year to more than 1000 cases/year in next 3-5 years.
We require the following infrastructure neuronavigation system,
intraoperative MRI and Gamma knife to be at par with standard
neurosurgery department in India. We have severe shortage of staff ,
Medical Council of India recognition and M.Ch. courses can solve this
perennial problem and spur our growth. Till present our journey has
been very fruitful; and being at threshold, the future will depend on
administration's vision for the organization and departments.
